The Healthy Green Drink

The Healthy Green DrinkI recently received the book The Healthy Green Drink Diet from one of my wonderful clients.  It is chocked full of valuable information and recipes to create delicious, nutrient rich green juices and smoothies.  It also has lots of photographs, which I love.  I am so excited to finally be putting it to use.  For those who have never had green juices, you may start with some of the smoothies or juices that contain more fruit.  Over the last few years I have eased my way into drinking green smoothies and now I can’t get enough of them.  So for my first recipe trial, I went with one of the most refreshing green drinks in the book, their signature ‘The Healthy Green Drink’.The Healthy Green Drink IngredientsThe Healthy Green Drink
{Ingredients}

  • 1 bunch watercress
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 lime (peeled)
  • 1/4 English cucumber
  • 4 mint leaves
  • water / ice

{Directions}
Fill blender with as much water and ice as you like and add ingredients.  Blend until smooth.

I couldn’t find watercress, so I substituted a few handfuls of spinach.  I am also a bit addicted to ginger, so I added an inch long chunk of it to the blender.  Because we love green smoothies in our home, we invested in a super powered blender (a Vitamix from Costco).  Be aware that some blenders may not blend the ginger very well.  You may need to grate it for a better consistency in your smoothie.  I also added coconut water, in addition to filtered water.

Optional Healthy Add-Ons:

  • protein powder (for a more filling drink)
  • ginger (if you are addicted, like I am… also great for digestion)
  • banana (for sweetness)
  • avocado (for creaminess & healthy fats – also helps increase absorption of other nutrients)
  • flax seeds (for fiber & omega 3s)
  • walnuts or almonds (for healthy oils & fats)
  • coconut water

Monthly Motto

done_is_better_than_perfect_motto

I recently saw this written down somewhere and have been thinking about it ever since!  Therefore, I have decided to make it my new life motto, at least for this month.  I tend to get caught up in the little, often unimportant, details of everyday life.  These little details derail from my productive momentum and throw everything off.  Because I am a bit of a perfectionist (I blame my astrological sign for this…Virgo) projects that I complete are usually well thought out and well executed, even if I don’t go the extra, extra mile to make them ‘perfect’.  So, I have created this note to remind myself to stop aiming for perfection & over thinking things, and to just get things… done!
